Research skills training program
In our technologies training, we will deliver seminars to cover a broad set of emerging technologies that can be used to identify, functionally assess and mechanistically understand enhancers. This will provide our ESRs with a broad overview of the technologies they can use in their own projects as well as groups within the ETN with whom they can collaborate to implement and use such technologies. In our Genomic Medicine Training, we will use seminars to illustrate the medical relevance of enhancers and non-coding genetic variation. Moreover, we will emphasize the computational and experimental tools that our ESRs could use to identify disease-causative genetic variants. Finally, the identification and functional annotation of enhancers and disease-associated non-coding genetic variants is heavily dependent on the generation, analysis and interpretation of different types of genomic data. The Bioinformatics Training will provide our ESRs with the necessary computational skills to exploit their own, as well as publicly available genomic data. Rather than teaching basic computational and programming skills, which are now becoming more common among undergraduate students, we will focus on the strategies, tools, quality measurements and statistical tests specifically designed to correctly analyse and interpret a broad range of genomic data. To achieve this, we will combine theoretical seminars, practical workshops and homework.
